2010 FRINGE OLYMPIC GAMES
No athletic skill? No problem. The 2010 Fringe Olympic Games are designed to let your competitive side come out to play in a whole new way. Teams will travel around the city to compete in a series of "Fringe-minded" events held at various locations around the downtown. Some events put a Fringe spin on the traditional Olympic events, while others have been created just for the Fringe Olympics, like the Feline Prolonged Gaze Marathon or Synchronized Improvisation to name a few. The Fringe Olympics will give teams a chance to explore downtown Cincinnati and encourage them to think about public space differently. Again, no athletic skill is required to play, or even win, just a willingness to have fun and let loose a little.
The Fringe Olympics is actually made up of two parts: a game design workshop and the playing of the games. Participants are welcome to attend both the workshop and games, or just one or the other. There is no charge for either, but we would like to encourage participants to sign up.
WORKSHOP
The workshop will be held on Monday, June 7th, 2:00 - 5:00 pm at the Know Theatre, and will focus on creating events that will be featured in the 2010 Fringe Olympic Games. At the workshop the principles of urban game design will be discussed and then put to use. Attendees will be given a location in the downtown to explore and then collaborate to make a game that could be played in that location.
OLYMPIC GAMES
The official 2010 Fringe Olympic Games will be played on Saturday, June 12th, 11:00 am - 2:00 pm. Participant should meet at the Know Theatre where the rules will be explained and supplies handed out. You can sign up as a team or you can be put on a team on the day of the games. Teams should ideally be 3-5 people. Comfortable shoes are suggested. Style points will be awarded for any semblance of a team uniform. Kids are welcome too.
